Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
Architectural photography of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
The mosque is one of the largest in the world, with capacity for over 40,000 worshippers. Its design draws from multiple periods of Islamic architecture — Moorish, Mughal, Fatimid, and Ottoman elements are all present. The exterior is clad in white marble with inlaid floral patterns and calligraphic detailing. The main prayer hall houses one of the world's largest hand-knotted carpets and a chandelier fitted with Swarovski crystal elements.
The building comprises 82 domes, four minarets, and a series of outer courtyards with reflecting pools that mirror the facade. The photographs focus on material detail, structural repetition, and the play of natural light across the marble surfaces at different times of day.
