Kidepo Valley
KARAMOJA, NORTH EASTERN UGANDA
Landscape and wildlife photography from Kidepo Valley National Park in the Karamoja region of northeastern Uganda.
Kidepo is one of the most remote national parks in East Africa, and one of the least visited. The landscape is semi-arid savanna, bounded by the Morungole and Napore mountain ranges, with wide grassland plains punctuated by borassus palms and scattered acacia.
The park supports elephant, giraffe, buffalo, zebra, lion, cheetah, and the African wild dog — several of which are found nowhere else in Uganda. The Karamojong communities of the surrounding region have inhabited the area for centuries.
The series documents the open terrain, animal life, and the stark, dry-season light that defines the Kidepo landscape; a visual character distinct from Uganda's greener western parks.
