Kisoro
SOUTH WESTERN UGANDA
Landscape photography from Kisoro district in southwestern Uganda, within the Virunga volcanic chain.
The terrain is defined by steep, closely spaced hills — the result of ancient volcanic activity that also produced a series of crater lakes across the area. Kisoro sits at the junction of Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, and is the primary access point for Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.
The region supports mountain gorilla and golden monkey populations, alongside a high density of bird species. It is also home to the Batwa, the indigenous forest-dwelling community of the area. The series documents the landscape itself — volcanic terrain, cultivated hillside, and the lake formations that define the Kisoro basin.
