Anzisha Prize: Farmplus Uganda
MPIGI, UGANDA
Photography commissioned by the Anzisha Prize, documenting 2025 fellow Jesca Nayebare and her social enterprise Farmplus at SINA Village in Mpigi, Uganda.
Farmplus produces sustainable protein feed for livestock using Black Soldier Fly larvae — a year-round alternative to conventional animal feed that doesn't compete with human food supply. The enterprise converts organic waste into feed, reducing costs for smallholder farmers while generating employment for women and youth in the surrounding community.
The Anzisha Prize is Africa's premier award for entrepreneurs aged 15–22, run by the African Leadership Academy in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation. The shoot covered Nayebare's production facility, the larvae rearing and processing operation, and portraits of the founder and her team.
